Mutants, Masterminds and Mayhem oh my!

  • Mar. 31st, 2009 at 10:30 AM

So our regular D&D group alternates Saturdays and plays different RPGs. One week is always D&D 3.5 (most of them hate 4.0) and the "off week" we try and do something different. We just finished up a Hunter: The Vigil zombie survival game that was pretty cool.

Well, now we're getting ready to crank up a Mutants and Masterminds campaign. I'm pretty psyched about this one since I've never had the opportunity to play/run a superhero game.

In anticipation of this I have started working on some paper terrain from Worldworks. Specifically, the Streets of Mayhem series. I'm starting with the Mayhem Armory and will go on from there. I'll try to post regular pics of the progress.

I'm a sad, sad person

Has it really been damn near a year since I posted anything? Well yeah, duh.

You think something is really cool and you'll stick to it, then the next thing you know you haven't been back in a year. One thing pushes another off the front burner =)

Some cool things you missed that you probably don't care about either.

  • My son graduated from High School ... with honors! And, after 2 semesters in college will have his associates degree! He wants to get into music engineering... sweet!
  • The driveway we had to dig up and replace will finally be finished this week.
  • Finally got the windows replaced in the house. now the cool AC stays in!
  • I've still only seen one episode of Supernatural
  • Lost was great this year
So you see, I'm pretty damn boring.

Is This Me?

Only a couple of people that pass this way even know me at all. However, I think this is pretty close. If you happen to actually know me then feel free to comment.

By the way, never heard of the book series until I saw the movie trailer. If you've read them then let me know what you think. I plan on picking up the first one tonight or tomorrow.

Today is a sad day. Actually it's a lot more than sad. it's one of those days where something is just so mind boggling you can't quite believe it really happened.

Today a good man was taken home. All I could think of this morning when I got the call was "Jesus must really have needed a good truck driver". As hokey as that sounds, I just can't see any other reason to take Wayne from us.

This morning around 2:00 a.m. Wayne was senslessly gunned down in what can only be described as a random drive-by shooting. Wayne is a truck driver. He had just backed his rig out from the fenced in warehouse where he worked, preparing for a haul up to Washington D.C. He got out to re-lock the gate when he was shot and left to die in the street. His wallet and personal items untouched, just a random senseless shooting in a town where it is so commonplace the neighbors ignored the gunshots.

Wayne was a great man who would do anything in the world for anyone. He'd give you the shirt right off his back. It makes no sense. Wayne was a deacon in our church. He helped out with the youth group with me and the kids loved having him around. He was funny and would jump right in and act up with the best of them. Wayne loved Jesus with all his heart and never hesitated to talk about his faith, he was an inspiration to all he came in contact with.

Today I think I've run the spectrum of feelings, disbelief leading the pack.

Goodbye Wayne .... Friend, Mentor, Faithful Servant .... You are missed.

Sometimes Having Kids Is All The Nicer

  • May. 30th, 2007 at 11:10 AM

I love my kids dearly. I would do anything for them.

However, sometimes it's a big fat bonus when they unknowingly do something for you.

My son is almost 17, so I call him 17. He is a gamer geek like his old man, which is handy having something in common. I have thought many times about getting an XBOX 360. I would love to have one. However, I married a non-gaming woman. She can't stand technology, hates it. I could never get her to think spending $400 on a video game system is a good idea. Having a PS2 is the best I can hope for.

So, the other day my son decides he wants to spend his hard earned paychecks on a 360! Of course I remained calm and played it down, letting nature take it's course so to speak. Well, 2 days ago our household became the proud parents of a 360, and grand dad (me) is just as happy as the REAL owner.

We are now drooling over the beauty of Gears of War and Dead Rising. Such joy!

Uhhhhh.....Brrraaaiiiinns

Better Late Than Never?

I finally remembered to have the CW on at the right time on the right night to see Supernatural. I know just enough about the storyline to be ignorant =)

The show was pretty darn good. I like the premise alot.

was this the season finale? Probably 'cuz it seemed a bit of a cliffhanger ending there.

Anyway, good stuff.

Looking out for the customer

Something you don't see every day.

I recently bought the RPG book Savage Worlds from Pinnacle Entertainment. You can buy their material either as a downloadable PDF or in book form via snail mail. They also have different settings to go along with the Savage Worlds ruleset. I looked at two such settings, one is Rippers and the other is Necropolis.

What was so great about these settings is the "Player's Guide" for each setting. For a $7 download you get the first 50-60 pages of the setting book .... the basics that a new player would need. These player's guides come with a site license  that allows you  to copy the document for  other players in your campaign. I know, there's nothing  stopping anyone from making a million copies anyway.  It's just  very cool  that  Pinnacle  put that in there , mostly  so my local  Office  Max  can't  refuse  my  copy  orders  =)

Now my players can have the basics without having to buy the books themselves.

BTW. I aggravated my back 2 days ago. So, other than a few minutes here and there throughout the day, I am pretty much bed ridden .... sucks to be me.

My latest obsession

  • May. 13th, 2007 at 10:46 PM

Recently I rediscovered a site I had visited awhile back. When I first went there I thought the products were interesting and cool, I just didn't have time to mess with it .... or I just didn't feel like going to all the work. That's probably closer to the truth.

Anyway, I went back recently just in time to discover their newest release .... a zombie survival game and terrain piece all in one. I was immediately hooked and dropped the coin on the kit. It is awesome!

So what am I talking about? Worldworks Games and their fantastic paper terrain sets. I know, I know, paper terrain? Trust me, this stuff is amazing. Just go check it out.

I also picked up the mini chunk dungeon set, Casteleworks Classic and Dungeonworks Classic. I have a lot to keep me busy.

However, getting the zombie mansion finished is top priority. It's a 2 story layout 12" x 33" I'll post picks when I get the first floor done.
